DA& DA’s actions are firmly rooted at local level, enriched by exchanges and close collaboration with our partners in the Caribbean and beyond. With regard to our priority target group, migrant women supported in Martinique, we first identified the countries of origin, transit and destination in relation to their migratory journey. We have begun work in French Guiana, Suriname and the Dominican Republic.
Working in close collaboration with our local partners, we have set up prevention and awareness-raising initiatives on health and gender-based violence issues for women victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation along the Maroni River and in the interior of Suriname. We have also organized training courses for professionals on gender equality.
More specifically, in Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin and French Guiana, we have trained dozens of professionals to identify and support victims of the prostitution system. In Dominica, we supported our local partner in setting up a sewing workshop and developing income-generating activities.
With regard to our second target audience, vulnerable young people, our action is mainly concentrated in Martinique. We are regularly asked to intervene in schools on issues of gender equality, and we carry out capacity-building and skills enhancement activities, as well as providing support for educational mobility, within the framework of European and national exchange programs.

Martinique
Martinique is an island in the French Caribbean, around 7,000 kilometers from France, 120 kilometers from Guadeloupe and 3,300 kilometers from New York. As a French region, it enjoys the status of an “outermost region” of the European Union, and follows French legislation.
The island is characterized by immigrant populations and is deeply marked by a history of slavery. In all, 70% of migrants come from the Caribbean and South America.
Martinique’s economy is based mainly on tourism, agriculture (notably banana and sugarcane production) and the service sector.
Tourism is a major source of revenue, with Martinique attracting visitors thanks to its beaches, picturesque landscapes and unique Creole culture.
However, the economy remains fragile and largely dependent on subsidies and financial support from France and the European Union. The island has a high unemployment rate, often higher than that of mainland France.
Young people and women are particularly affected. Social and economic inequalities are also marked, with part of the population living in precarious conditions.
Although the education system in Martinique is similar to that in France, vocational training and higher education are key areas for improving the socio-economic inclusion of young people and adults.
The same applies to the healthcare system, which is also aligned with the French model. However, disparities exist in access to healthcare, particularly in rural areas and for vulnerable populations.
